A life lost

I loving memory...

Heath Ledger

1979 - 2008

If you haven't heard, go to any news page on the web. He was found today in his apartment. It looks like he OD'd on perscription sleep aids mixed with anti depresents.

He was one of my favorite actors. One of the first to star in a blockbuster movie openly praising homosexuality. Multi talented, good looking and willing to take challenging roles.

Why do only the good die young?

I was defeated last night! My honor has been dragged through the wet, slushy snow! I had a delivery to a road that the jeep and I actually couldn't make it up! I've never not been able to make it up a road in the jeep before. I feel defeated. I know it's silly, but my vehicle is also my hobby and I pride myself on the fact that no road is closed to me because it's too difficult.

In brighter news, I'm writing again. I've started a new story. It is a new fantasy (no I'm not giving up on the old one, I just needed a change of pace for a while) call Eternal Forest.  If you would like to read the first chapter, go here.  You can also find some of the short stories there that I wrote for class last year.

Thank you to everyone who helped cheer me up about not making it to the next leg of the Amazon novel competition.  I wanted to share something else that happened that made me feel better about it.  I learned that I know someone else that entered a novel and didn't make it to the next round.  MY WRITING PROFESSOR!!!!!  I hate the way she grades and often times I think she's full of shit so it made me feel like a million bucks to see her get rejected just like everyone else.  That may sound evil of me, but who cares!

Just got an email that my first class is canceled today.

I fail.

Well, the list of who made it into the semi-finals in the Amazon ABNA contest was posted yesterday and.....I'm not on it. Oh well. It was a fun trip. I wish they would actually send those of us who didn't make it an email saying we didn't make it. I mean, back in November, the people who didn't make the first cut got a letter stating as much. Are we not worth their time at this point?

Well, I'm going to be revising the story this and next month and then self-publishing it. Sparky is doing a cover art for me. The only other thing I need is a professional editor. I enjoy writing and I think I come up with good stories but spelling and grammar are sadly not my forte.

All in all, I'm depressed about not making it to the next round. I didn't think I'd win by any stretch but the people in this round get a review of their book by publishers weekly and I really wanted to get one.

Well, I finally have some time to sit and write so here are my thoughts and memories from the road trip to Arizona. They are LJ cut by state we passed through. I'm skipping North Carolina because none of that was new.

Well, I'm back from my road trip. I'm going to make a long post some time soon detailing the entire trip, but I don't have time right now.

I was sitting in the Library yesterday with 1.5 hours till my class. I decided to see if I could sign up for some more classes since I was still under. I found one that I needed that was open. After I signed up for it, I noticed that it started in 20min. Hurray for instant class.

I'm going to be a nervous wreck all day. Today they will announce the semi-finalists for the breakthrough novel award. Amazon is bad for wating till the last second to send out notices so I (along with the other contestents) are glued to our screens.

Well, I gotta go to Pizza Hut and make some money. It's snowing so hopefully people will want to have their food delivered.

American Gladiators

The new American Gladiators is really amazing! If you missed it, shame on you.

Woke up with a cold this morning. Been pumping myself full of drugs so I can lose it before the 10th. We had a few people over to watch Gladiators. It wasn't really the "party" we were planning but we still had a lot of fun. The new take on the show is great and they brought back pretty much all the old challenges. The eliminator at the end is very different and is kind of like the obsticle course in Ninja Warrior. I think some of the gladiators are going to get fired before the season's over. One of the women just failed to do anything and one of the guys got disqualified twice in a row for doing the same damn thing.

In the first challenge of the first episode, one contestant about broke her leg and had to go home. Great way to start the series don't you think? If you missed it, the next episode is tomorrow night at 8. Watch it, bitches.

In the Wake of Coatney's Party

Hey all. Just got back from Coatney's farewell party. Everything went really well. I played beer pong for the first time (no I didn't drink a lot and get hammered if that is the conclusion anyone is jumping to. I barely even got buzzed) and ended up playing against Steph from Pizza Hut. That was...how to put this...interesting. That's a good way to describe it.

Daniel and crew brought rock band over. Everyone said I sing very well as long as I KNOW THE SONG.

I think it's bed time now.

Blessed be )o(

Christmas to the face.

Oi. Did anyone get the licence plate of that holiday that just ran me over? I'm exhausted. Had a good one (better than I was expecting actually) although I was really tired through most of it. (Lack of sleep and driving to Hickory and back takes it out of you). Got some nice stuff including a new winter coat that I REALLY needed. It was all good and fun but I'm really tired from it. The apartment is a disaster from our lack of time to clean. Hopefully we can spend some of tomorrow cleaning up and doing the dishes.

Work should be a lot easier now that the Christmas rush is over. We'll go back to our normal hours. I'm sure I'll see a metric fuck-ton of returns come into the store today.

First good snow of the season. The roads up here were covered almost imediatley. Jeep took it fine (like I knew it would) but saw a lot of other people sliding around. Work was pretty dead since no one wanted to go out.

Got to have lunch with Barbara today even though we had to go down to Lenoir to do it. On the way back up, the wind was so strong it was trying to take the tops of my half doors off.

I think it's bed time. Goodnight.

Blessed be. )o(

Random thoughts to keep myself awake.

I should be asleep right now, but the repair guys are here fixing the heater. I don't like sleeping when people I don't know are in my house, plus I'm having to keep the cat shut up in the room so if I go in there with him he'll just be all "pet me! love me! I'm a cuddle slut!" and I'll never get any rest anyway.

Sorry for the emo post yesterday. My view hasn't changed (at least not yet anyway) but I'm feeling better about it.

Need to clean again. I really enjoyed having such a clean place after thanksgiving. I need to do some dishes and clean the dining room. Kim and I both have tomorrow morning off so We'll do it then.

Shows being on re-runs suck. Damn you writer's strike! I WANT NEW BONES/HOUSE/K-VILLE/FAMILY GUY!!! Can't wait for January. American Gladiators will rock hard and Summer Glau is in the new Termenator show. Squee for cyborg River!

I think they got the heater working now so I'm going to attempt to go to sleep. Thank you livejournal for letting me fill you with randomness.
